SUPREME CHAPLAIN'S CHALLENGE - MAY
[Jesus] said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” (Gospel for May 24, Jn 20:21) Jesus sends us into the world, just as the Father sent him. Jesus had a sacred, divine mission — to proclaim the Good News of salvation and build the kingdom of God — and we are commissioned to do likewise. As his faithful disciples, we continue his saving mission on earth, consistent with our state of life. We are not just “receivers” of the Gospel; our mi

From an ancient homily on Holy Saturday
Something strange is happening—there is a great silence on earth today, a great silence and stillness. The whole earth keeps silence because the King is asleep. The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and he has raised up all who have slept ever since the world began. God has died in the flesh and hell trembles with fear. He has gone to search for our first parent, as for a lost sheep. Greatly desiring to visit those who live in darkness and

SUPREME CHAPLAIN'S CHALLENGE - APRIL
Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread. (Gospel for April 19, Lk 24:35) The disciples on the road to Emmaus did not recognize Jesus until the breaking of the bread. Jesus promised he would be with us always, and the Eucharist is his fulfillment of that promise. We encounter his presence most profoundly in the Eucharist, where he is truly present — body, blood, soul, and divinity — under the appeara

Special Events Committee is being reworked at our parish, and it looks like we'll be taking over the Lake Ariel Derby event. Other ministries will be picking up some re-occuring events as well. The idea is that we can spread

SUPREME CHAPLAIN'S CHALLENGE - MARCH
March 2026 So Thomas, called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go to die with him.” (Gospel for March 22, Jn 11:16) Look at the bravery of Thomas! Jesus had just announced his intention to travel to Judea, where he had narrowly escaped getting stoned to death. Given the potential danger ahead, Thomas seems prepared for martyrdom. Later, of course, he and the other disciples would flee as Jesus was arrested, and Thomas would doubt reports of Jesus’ resurrecti

SUPREME CHAPLAIN'S CHALLENGE - FEBRUARY
February 2026 “Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you [falsely] because of me.” (Gospel for Feb. 1, Mt 5:11) In the next verse, Jesus continues, “Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you” (Mt 5:12b). His words imply that his disciples are prophets in their own right, following after the prophets of old. Indeed, as his disciples, we become priests, prophets and kings by virtue of our baptism. In our propheti
